With Bangalore, What will you do if you find suspicious article on the road or in bus stand or inside train? Do you have adequate information of whom to contact, what to do and what NOT to do in these scenario? Its pity that none of the news papers or TV Channels have published these details. I found the following “not so interesting” information in the web. But, its very useful. In an office complex which houses many IT and IT related companies (like Tidel Park) at US, there have been some cases reported on theft of vehicles and spare parts. Thefts do happen at US. But, I am impressed with the way they handle the situation. In a single page, they have published to all the tenants of the complex of what to do and what not to do to in case if one encounters anything suspicious…Please find the precise mail below from the office complex to its tenants. ———————————————————————————– TO: ALL CORPORATE WOODS® TENANTSRE: SECURITY ALERT Recent criminal activity along the College Boulevard Corridor involves vehicular theft and fuel theft. We want you and your employees to be aware of this activity and keep several things in mind to help ensure your safety.
In the interest of security and awareness for Corporate Woods® employees and tenants, a few observations are in order with regards to the recent thefts: The thefts are occurring in the daytime and some have involved vehicles that are 6 to 12 years old. Catalytic converters have also been stolen for their recycle value. The converters are removed in less than 2 minutes from underneath the vehicle. Always be aware of your environment while walking to and from your vehicle. Corporate Woods® does not allow “car repairs” in its parking lots; therefore anytime you see someone under a vehicle or if you see someone “hanging around” your vehicle, contact Corporate Woods® Security at 913-451-8240. Our security service is also available to provide an escort to and from your vehicle. 1) Upon initial observation and/or suspicion that a crime is occurring, individuals should be directed to call 911 first and then Corporate Woods® Security at 913-451-8240. 2) Individuals should be asked NOT TO CONFRONT OR PHYSICALLY DETAIN ANY SUSPECT. 3) Obtain good descriptive data of vehicles and/or subjects (vehicle description, tag number, height and weight, clothing. etc). This is more beneficial than attempting to intervene or prevent the criminal act. 4) Do not attempt to pursue, “block in" and/or physically detain criminal suspects in any manner. 5) Lock your doors, roll up your windows and do not leave valuables in your vehicle. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your Property Manager at 913-451-4466. August 5, 2008 cc: OperationsSecurity —————————————————————————————- The case stated above is quite a small case of vehicle theft compared to terrorism and bomb threats in our country. But, look at the way they react even to these incidents. Look at the precautionary measures, the Dos and Don’ts they are publishing to all the tenants on this incident. It quite difficult to find where bomb blast is going happen next. But, its a simple job for the Govt of India to give a notice of above sort of what a common man should do? Just think about the security check in US. The security check that was intensified after 9/11 is still effective. Your baggage, coat, wallet and all tiny things that you carry are checked effectively. Even in case of minor suspicion, the security officer checks thoroughly. All that we notice from US is “They never become COMPLACENT as far as security is concerned” Let me also narrate an incident in Chennai. Following the Bangalore and Ahmadabad bomb blasts, security has been increased at my work place i.e. Tidel Park. Usually, the employees will not be asked to go through the security gate, but it is mandatory for visitors. Last week, all those who go inside Tidel Park – irrespective of employee or visitor, they are asked to go through security gate. All the bags are checked thoroughly by security. They were doing it sincerely for 1 week. But, this week, bags are not checked properly and the effectiveness of security check is coming down. This is not the case only with Tidel Park or Chennai. This is happening all over our country. Police or security are extra careful for a very short period after an untoward incident occurs. They are extra careful before Jan 26, Aug 15 and Dec 6. But from the next day, they are back to normal. Why not our police and security agency make sure that they never become “COMPLACENT”? |
